The issue was reported by West Midlands Railway at 3.50pm and has led to trains running through the station on the line to and from Wolverhampton being either cancelled or diverted due to the line being blocked for around 25 minutes.

Passengers were warned that services would be diverted and would not be calling at Tame Bridge Parkway.

West Midlands Railway said that the issue was being worked on by engineers and would be resolved by 6pm, with a full service expected to be back up and running by 7pm.

A spokesman for West Midlands Railway said at the time: "Due to a points failure at Bescot Stadium, the line towards Shrewsbury is blocked.

"Trains will be diverted and not call at Tame Bridge Parkway.

"For Tame Bridge Parkway, please travel towards Wolverhampton and travel back towards Tame Bridge Parkway where trains are travelling normal route.

"We expect the problem to be fixed by 6pm and we estimate that our train service will be back to normal by 7pm."

The incident was later confirmed as completed at 4.15pm with an update saying: "The points have been fixed and all trains will be operating their normal line of route."
