Man arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after parked cars are hit in Staffordshire

A man was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after an incident which saw three parked cars hit in the middle of the night.

Officers from Staffordshire Police were called to Burntwood Road in Norton Canes at around midnight on Tuesday after reports of a man running from the scene of a collision.

They arrived to find a white Fiat Doblo van had been involved in a collision with the parked cars, which included a silver Kia Rio, a grey Mini Countryman and a black Land Rover Discovery.

A man was subsequently stopped by officers on Walsall Road, with the 36-year-old man from Cannock arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink and remaining in custody while inquiries continue.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after a collision involving three parked cars earlier today (Tuesday 31 December).

"We were called shortly after midnight to Burntwood Road in Norton Canes following reports of a man running from the scene of a collision. 

"A white Fiat Doblo van had been involved in a collision with the parked cars which included a silver Kia Rio, a grey Mini Countryman and a black Land Rover Discovery.

"No one was reported injured. 

"A man was detained by officers on Walsall Road a short time later. 

"A 36-year-old man, from Cannock, was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink. 

"He remains in police custody while inquiries continue. 

"All vehicles were recovered and the road was cleared by 2.40am.
