Chaos on the trains as services disrupted by engineering works, faults - and now Avanti manager strikes
Avanti train managers are staging industrial action today in a dispute over rest day working, amid disruption caused by over-running engineering works.
As a result of the Avanti train manager walkout on New Year's Eve the company, which operates services through Stafford, Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street to Euston and saw 360,000 fully or part-cancelled in the past year, said it will be operating "significantly reduced" timetables up until Thursday.
The company also urged passengers to avoid travelling between New Year's Eve and January 2 or claim a full ticket refund due to the strike action by members of the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT).
Responding to claims that fed-up passengers resorted to catching the tram instead after significant train delays at Wolverhampton on Sunday, Avanti stated: "Two of our services were unable to call at Wolverhampton because they were diverted due to the overhead power supply issues.
"Any customers whose journeys were delayed by 15 minutes or more can claim delay repay compensation."
Meanwhile Transport of Wales said two early morning services were cancelled between Shrewsbury and Birmingham due to signalling issues on Sunday.
