A stretch of the motorway was closed as a result of the incident near Junction 1 for West Bromwich on Sunday (December 29).

Police were called to the scene at around 12.25pm and arrested a man on suspicion of drink driving.

He was taken to hospital for assessment, a spokesman for West Midlands Police said.

National Highways warned motorists of the closure on the M5 just before 1pm.

Writing to X, formerly Twitter, it said the crash had resulted in "minor injury" and warned drivers delays were "building quickly".
