Engineering works which were not finished yesterday (Friday) caused misery for train passengers travelling to and from Wolverhampton.

And earlier this morning, trains could not stop at the station again. However, all lines have been opened but National Rail warned "expect disruption until 4.30pm.

West Midlands Railway issued an update at 6am this morning, which said: "Services are still affected today (28/12) due to overrunning engineering at Wolverhampton.

"Replacement buses running Wolverhampton -Stafford and Wolverhampton - Shrewsbury Ticket acceptance remains in place on @nxwestmidlands @WMmetro."

WMR advised passengers to check ahead before travelling on the train and give themselves extra time to complete their journey.

The update said: "Due to engineering works overrunning, services running through Wolverhampton will be disrupted today (28/12/2024). We advise leaving extra time before you travel and checking the journey planner for up-to-date live information. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

At 7.13am Birmingham New Street tweeted: "Work’s ongoing to fix a power issue to the axel counters - a vital part of our signalling system which detect where trains are on the tracks We’ve been able bring the majority of these back online and hope to fully restore the remaining ones affected as quickly as possible."

Yesterday rail passengers were given updates about "parts being taken" to Wolverhampton to fix the problem and a shuttle bus was provided between Wolverhampton and Stafford.

Birmingham New Street tweeted: "New parts are making their way to #Wolverhampton as engineers continue their hard work Disruption is expected until the end of the day with the hope normal service can resume in the morning."
