Train services between Birmingham and Manchester suspended after engineering works overrun

Commuters were warned of travel delays after train services were suspended this morning due to engineering works not finishing on time.

The issue caused services to be suspended between Birmingham and Manchester after the works being carried out between Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton overran. 

CrossCountry Trains posted on X this morning: "Due to engineering works not being finished on time between Birmingham New Street - Wolverhampton, all lines are currently blocked. 

"Diversionary routes are unavailable so services will be suspended between Birmingham New Street - Manchester Piccadilly until further notice."

However, issuing an update at just after 8am, it posted: " All lines have now reopened between Birmingham New Street - Wolverhampton so services can start to run as booked. 

"Delays and/or cancellations may still occur due to crew and unit displacement."
