Three dogs rescued from the street in Bilston enjoy their first Christmas in warm new forever homes
Three dogs found in a Wolverhampton tent by police officers enjoyed their first Christmas in their warm new homes.
Meet Gus, Ocean and Frank, who were rescued from a makeshift shelter in Bilston last month where a homeless woman was struggling to provide for them.
Last month officers were made aware of a woman living in a makeshift shelter in Bilston with three dogs.
PCs Kirstie Brooks and Sophie Moore-Harbach from West Midlands Police's Wolverhampton city centre team knew that those living conditions were unacceptable for both the woman and the dogs.
P3, a homeless and housing charity who support people in need, had reached out to the woman and, supported by Wolverhampton Homes, found her some accommodation.
And they contacted the officers to ensure her safety and get help in finding accommodation for the dogs as they'd found other agencies were full and unable to offer support.
Response Sergeant Philip Auger took in the French bulldog home who he's named Gus; response PC Corinna Vondyta has the fawn pug called Frank and Wolverhampton City centre PCSO James Wykes has given Ocean the black pug a home.
PC Brooks said: "This is all part of what we do - we try to support people and be there to help when they're in the most need.
"It's great to know that the woman, who'd been homeless for a number of months, now has a permanent roof over her head and a fresh start to her life.
"And while the three dogs have also had a rough time of it, they're now homed in the loving care of the officers."
PC Vondyta and her husband Nathan Davies, who's on one of Wolverhampton City Centre neighbourhood teams, took in eight-year-old Frank.
They already have another pug, a Yorkshire terrier and a sausage dog called Ralph who is now Frank's best friend, playing together and sleeping next to each other.
They said: "Frank needs quite a lot of treatment but we are slowly getting there with the help of our local vets.
"We decided to give an old pug a new home as we love dogs and couldn’t see him homeless.
"He is the most loving adorable thing in the world and snores like a trooper when lying on us at night!"
PCSO Wykes and his family have rehomed the little black pug and decided that she should keep her name, Ocean.
He said: "We decided to take her home with us because we've looked at getting a pooch for a while and the opportunity to rehome this little one was a chance we just had to take.
"She's well loved by the whole family and has a habit of falling asleep with the kids.
"Her favourite treats are gravy bones, she loves playing with her Christmas goose squeaky toy and going on long walks."
For Wolverhampton Response Sergeant Philip Auger, naming the French Bulldog was easy. He said: "When I saw him I knew he was going to be called Gus."
And Gus too has settled easily into his new home, with Sgt Auger's many other family pets, including a cat, tortoise, hamster, crested gecko, turtles and fish.
Dad-of three Sgt Auger decided Gus should join the family after their old dog, which he'd rescued many years before from a drugs den, had sadly died in August.
Gus now enjoys going on the school run and getting fussed by lots of the children and has even been taken on a trip to visit Santa, where he met a huge gingerbread man.
Sgt Auger said: "Gus is so happy when he is around people and other dogs. His temperament is outstanding with everyone. I do believe that with dogs, they will find you if it is meant to be."
