The force has invested in the Op Snap team which reviews footage of bad driving. Examples include using a mobile phone while driving, not wearing a seatbelt, failing to stop at a red traffic light, using a trailer in lane three of a motorway, crossing solid white lines and other offences where a driver is not in proper control of a vehicle.
Officers can issue advice letters or send people on education courses. In more serious cases, they can issue fines and even court summons.
Sergeant Stephen Evans, from the Op Snap team, said: “We’ve had an overwhelmingly successful year on the Op Snap team, and have been thrilled by the response from the public.
“We’ve had some appalling examples of driving which have been caught on dashcam and helmet cam, and we’ve been able to take the right action as a result.
“The feedback we get from people has been really positive. They are reassured that we are taking action on their evidence. We’re educating drivers and hopefully preventing collisions where people are killed and seriously injured.
"We’re committed to working with local authorities and other partners to drive down the number of people killed and seriously injured on the roads, and Op Snap is just part of that work."
Earlier this year, the force launched its new-look Roads Policing Unit, which is home to officers who target the 'fatal four' offences behind most serious collisions – speed, mobile phone use, drink/drug driving, and not using a seatbelt.
