The festive 5k events take place every year in different locations across the region, and, for some, it's the perfect chance to get their steps in between inhaling entire tins of celebrations and clearing plates of breakfast rolls before preparations for the big sit-down dinner begins.

Locals gather in force each year, solidifying the bond our many communities have, and this year their are two runs taking place on Christmas Day.

Both starting at 9am, the first event will be the Walsall Arboretum parkrun, and runners have been reminded to come 'race ready' as the the visitor centre will be closed and the toilets will not be available.

Posting on Its official Facebook earlier today, Tuesday, December 24, the firm said: "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

"Weather's looking good so we look forward to seeing you in time for a 9am start in the morning.

"Please remember to come ready to run as the visitor centre will not be open so the toilets will not be available."

Cannock Chase Forest has been designated as a Natural Landscape

The second event will be the Cannock Chase parkrun, which was confirmed on Parkrun's official site, which said it would 'love' to see any fearless 5k runners take on the challenge in the forest.

A spokesperson for Cannock Chase parkrun, said: "Cannock Chase parkrun will be hosting a parkrun on Christmas morning! We would love to see you for your early doors run in the forest."
