Its Birmingham office which also covers the Black Country,  Staffordshire, Wyre Forest and Shropshire is among five teams looking to bolster proceed of crime teams.

The service also said prosecutors on duty during out-of hours periods in December last year laid charges relating to 58 alleged murders, 92 alleged rape cases and 2,460 alleged domestic abuse offences.

The service said its staff will not be winding down over this Christmas break and will continue to  provide legal advice to police forces, authorise emergency charges in serious cases and helping to keep suspects in custody.
