Man in his 60s dies in Staffordshire crash

An appeal for witnesses has been issued by Staffordshire Police following a fatal collision near Lichfield.

The police force was called at 4.50pm yesterday, Thursday, December 19, to reports of a collision involving a black Ford Ranger pick-up truck, a blue Valtra tractor and a yellow articulated Volvo lorry on Watling Street, Weeford.

The driver of the Ford - a man in his 60s - died at the scene, his family are being supported by specialist officers.

The drivers of the lorry and the tractor were not injured and police are 'keen' to speak to anyone who was travelling in the area with any information or dashcam footage which could help collision investigators.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police, said: "We are appealing for witnesses after a fatal collision near Lichfield.

"We were called at 4.50pm yesterday, Thursday, December 19, to reports of a collision involving a black Ford Ranger pick-up truck, a blue Valtra tractor and a yellow articulated Volvo lorry on Watling Street, Weeford.

"Sadly, the driver of the Ford, a man in his 60s, died at the scene.

"His family are being supported by specialist officers.

"The drivers of the lorry and the tractor were not injured. 

"We are keen to speak to anyone who was travelling in the area with any information or dashcam footage which could help collision investigators.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Upon arrival crews found three vehicles that had been in collision, a pick-up truck, a lorry and a tractor.

“The driver of the pick-up truck, a man, was found to be in a critical condition and was already receiving basic life support from bystanders, including colleagues from the fire service.

“Ambulance staff quickly began administering advanced life support but sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts, it became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

“A woman, who was hit by debris from the collision, was treated for minor injuries before being taken to Good Hope Hospital.

“The lorry driver, a man, was assessed and discharged at the scene whilst the tractor driver did not wish to be assessed.”
