Second teen dies after car failed to stop for police and crashed into tree

A second teenager has died after a car failed to stop for police and hit a tree.

The 16-year-old boy was inside the vehicle when it crashed on Grove Lane in Handsworth, Birmingham, just after 2am on Thursday (December 19).

He was taken to hospital but has since died, West Midlands Police confirmed this afternoon.

Another boy, aged 17, had been pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.

Three other teenagers, who were also inside the car, were taken to hospital. 

The Independent Office for Police Conduct has launched an investigation into the fatal collision and the circumstances leading up to it.

Police remained at the scene on Thursday afternoon as investigations continued.
