Major traffic disruption on the M6 near the A38 Spaghetti Junction as lorry overturns - latest update
Drivers have been warned to avoid a stretch of the M6 after a lorry overturned
Emergency services rushed to the scene of the M6 Southbound between Junctions 6 and Junction 5, at Salford Circus near Erdington in Birmingham, after a lorry overturned.
The incident is causing major traffic disruption this evening, with transport bosses urging drivers to be aware of congestion as the slip road remains closed with recovery work ongoing.
Paramedics said that a man was treated at the scene for minor injuries, however, he did not require further assistance and was discharged at the scene.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of an incident on the M6 Southbound between junctions 6 and 5 near Erdington at 10.30am.
"An ambulance was sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews discovered a lorry had ended up on its side. A man was treated for minor injuries but did not require further treatment and so was given self-care advice and discharged at the scene."
The incident has resulted in heavy traffic and long delays on Spaghetti Junction and the A38, with surrounding routes also affected.
Drivers have been urged to avoid the route while emergency services teams clear the route, with highways watchdogs, West Midlands Roads, announcing the closure on X.
On X, the group said: "Salford Circus, Spaghetti Junction.
"The slip road from Salford Circus onto the southbound M6 is closed.
"Overturned lorry."
Is it unknown as of yet how long the road is planned to be closed for, however, West Midlands Police and highways teams have been approached for comment.
