Emergency services rush to scene in Walsall following concerns for woman

Police were called to Walsall Road, Darlaston on Sunday evening and a cordon remained in place this morning. 

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed it was called to the scene at 9.32am on Monday (December 16).

The hazardous area response team, which includes specialist paramedics, were among the ambulance staff who remained at the scene as of around 11am.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "We were called to Walsall Road, Darlaston, at around 10.20pm last night (Sun) following concerns for a woman on the roof of a building. 

"A cordon is in place on Walsall Road and neighbouring streets as we work to resolve the incident."

At the scene today a crane could be seen at a mosque on the road behind the police cordon. 

Abad Yasin, aged 49, owner of Continental Food Store on Walsall Road, said: "There was police, the road was blocked off, everybody was there, ambulance too. They were still here this morning. 

"It totally disrupted everything, obviously we have a business here and due to that we could do nothing as well. They wouldn't let you walk past there."

Another local resident, who did not want to be named, said: "The fire engines and ambulance were here and everyone when my friend came past. 

"She couldn't stay to see what happened. The town was in a bit of a tizz about it, she came up and told us. She said the road was closed because of what was going on."

Buses were also diverted due to the incident. 

National Express West Midlands warned passengers of the disruption on the road just after 7.30am.

Writing to X, formerly Twitter, the regional bus company said services 34, 37 and 39 were affected by an "incident".

It added they had been diverted in both directions via Park Lane, Manor House Road and Darlaston Road.
