Four adults and a child were among those to be rushed to hospital following a crash on Dartmouth Road, Smethwick, just before 11pm on Saturday night.

Tragically, despite the best efforts of emergency responders, a two-year-old boy sadly died.

A woman, aged 29, and a 30-year-old man remain in serious condition while another man and woman, aged 30, are described as stable.

The driver of a grey Porsche Chayenne fled the scene following the collision, with police believing the Porsche was travelling from the island on Kendrick Way before it hit the Toyota.

Checks on the Porsche revealed that it was stolen earlier this month.

The road was closed in both directions following the crash but has now reopened.

West Midlands Police are now appealing for the driver of the Porsche to do the right thing and hand themselves in.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Our thoughts remain with the family of the little boy at this extremely difficult time.“

I would urge the driver of the Porsche to do the right thing and come and talk to us. They made the wrong decision to run away and I’m asking them now to make the right one.

"I also want to appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision and hasn’t already spoken to us, or has CCTV or dash-cam footage to get in touch."

The Serious Collision Investigation Unit can be contacted on email at SCIU@westmidlands.police.uk, call 101 or Live Chat via WMP Online between 8am and midnight. Please quote log 4421 14 December.
