After 48 years of service, it was announced that the Concord Market on Dudley Street in the centre of the town was closing due to a ‘number of factors’.
The market, which dates back to 1976, has a card shop, bakery, bookstores, clothes shops and a butcher but also has a number of empty units, though the landlord has not given a reason for the closure.
Reporter Jodine Samuels interviewed shoppers and stall holders to see what they thought about the news of the market, which will close on January 11, and this is what they had to say.
Jessie Southan, who runs Butterflies Cards and Gift shack said: “I am really sad because we built up good business, got to know all our customers. It’s been great, I loved the market, it's just very sad.
