Huge £400,000 cocaine stash recovered after police stop vehicle in Aldi car park

A vehicle stop at a Staffordshire retail park led police to find £400,000-worth of cocaine, with two people being arrested.

Staffordshire Police officers stopped a black Mercedes on the Aldi car park in Ventura Retail Park, Tamworth at around 1.20pm on Tuesday. 

They found a a snap bag of cocaine along with a burner phone.

Two people in the car were arrested.

Officers then searched an address in Bolehall and found a further four kilogrammes of cocaine, believed to be worth around £400,000 in street value, along with a small amount of cannabis, scales and other items linked to drug supply.

A 29-year-old man, from Tamworth, has been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cocaine, possession of cannabis, driving without a license and driving without insurance.

A 34-year-old woman, also from Tamworth, has been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cocaine, possession of cannabis and permitting the use of a motor vehicle with no insurance.

Both are being held in custody. 

A spokesperson for the force said: "We’re continuing to target high-harm offences in our communities and have arrested more than 1,000 people suspected of drug and weapon offences since launching a crackdown in May last year.

"Organised crime is a blight on local communities and is being targeted every single day by proactive officers."
