Several residents on Draycott Road in Draycott in the Moors have repeatedly complained about an inspection tank which has been discharging sewage.

Husband and wife Carol and Colin Hinds and neighbour Jean Dix have been dealing with the issue since August.

Part of the problem is that the sewage network runs from the properties into the main sewer. It is thought that it is blocked by weeds or there was a crack in the pipe causing the blockage.

Despite phone calls at least once a day to Severn Trent over the issue and at least 12 mitigation visits a solution has not been found.

Neighbour Jean Dix, 81, said there isn’t a day that goes by she isn’t on the phone trying to find out what’s going on.

She said: “It’s horrible, we’re not getting anywhere, it’s like we’re not important.”

The residents have been told by Severn Trent workers that the inspection tank should be emptied at least every two days to stop the build up of sewage pumping out onto the shared pavement between the properties and then onto Breach Road.

Colin said: “It’s just the time it’s taken, the fact that they’ve been out so many times, they keep promising to do the job and not do it. They can’t give us any time scale, even now we don’t know when it’s going to be resolved.

Carol added: “It’s absolutely flooded and it’s running down in a local area where loads of people walk from Tean, they walk up here, round and down the lane. Loads of dog walkers, so they’re all walking through this. I’m a nurse, I don’t believe this isn’t an environmental health issue because all these people are treading sewage into their houses.”

Severn Trent have now confirmed that a solution has been made and have apologised for any inconvenience.

They confirmed concrete was discovered in the sewer pipe causing a blockage.

A Severn Trent spokesperson said: “Our team were called to investigate flooding on the junction of Breach Lane and Draycott Road and discovered a sewer pipe had been damaged by a third party, causing a blockage. Teams have now completed repairs and cleared the blockage, so the pipe is free flowing again. We want to thank everyone for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
