Rail services disrupted across the Midlands as trains damaged and a landslip blocks line

Rail operators warn of disruption to train services in the West Midlands following Storm Darragh

A landslip on a railway line is causing travel disruption on Avant West Coast services in the Midlands this morning (Monday, December 9).

The rail operator said that some services to and from London Euston are expected to be cancelled.

Significant delays are expected to services that are running as a diversionary route has been put in place via the Midlands.

The landslip occurred between Tamworth and Nuneaton. You can check journeys on Avanti West Coast here

Other rail operators have also announced disruption to services following Storm Darragh, including West Midlands Railway which has told how dozens of trees blew down on or near the railway.

Several trains suffered significant damage from striking branches and will now need repairs.

Birmingham’s Cross City Line services were cancelled yesterday and continue to be disrupted this morning with rail replacement bus services in operation. WMR said that the Cross City North would be running from 8am.

Transport for Wales services are also affected with several routes suspended this morning, incuding Shrewsbury and Birmingham International with no services due to run all day. Here are the full details issue by National Rail: 

Shrewsbury and Birmingham International (until the end of the day)

No Transport for Wales services will run between Shrewsbury and Birmingham International.

You can use your ticket on West Midlands Railway services between Shrewsbury and Birmingham at no extra cost.

Additionally, you can use rail replacement transport provided by Keanes Coaches and JKT between Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton.

Shrewsbury and Hereford (until approximately 12:00)

Transport for Wales services between Shrewsbury and Hereford may be cancelled or delayed. No rail replacement transport will operate.

You can use West Midlands Railway or CrossCountry services via Birmingham New Street at no extra cost.

Shrewsbury and Swansea (via the Heart of Wales line) (until the end of the day)

No Transport for Wales services will run between Shrewsbury and Swansea via the Heart of Wales line. No rail replacement transport will operate.

Machynlleth and Shrewsbury (until the end of the day)

No Transport for Wales services will run between Machynlleth and Shrewsbury. An extremely limited rail replacement transport service will operate.

Carmarthen and Pembroke Dock / Milford Haven / Fishguard Harbour (until the end of the day)

No Transport for Wales services will run between Pembroke Dock / Milford Haven / Fishguard Harbour. No rail replacement transport will operate.

Maesteg and Bridgend (until the end of the day)

No Transport for Wales services will run between Maesteg and Bridgend until the line reopens at approximately 14:00.
