The Light Up a Life event, organised by Compton Care, was launched to support people in the local community over Christmas time by giving them a special opportunity to remember someone they love, while making a difference to those facing life limiting illnesses.
The event would see people make dedications in memory of a loved one and to donate to support Compton Care’s work - providing specialist palliative and bereavement support.
Dedications would be displayed in the charity’s online book of remembrance over the festive period.
The charity was set to host its Light up a Life event again this year at Compton Hall, but organisers cancelled it on the day due to the bad weather and their special Christmas tree falling down.
Lee Newman, Head of Fundraising at Compton Care, promised that the event will be rescheduled.
He said: “Light up a Life is a very special appeal that encourages the community to come together and remember loved ones at this poignant time of year, while at the same time helping us to provide expert care and compassion to patients and families when they need it most."
This December, the charity is expecting to be caring for more than 1,300 people across its range of services, available to those living in Wolverhampton, the Black Country, South Staffs and east Shropshire.
Lee added: “We couldn’t do what we do without the generosity of the local community, and we would like to thank everyone who is able to make a donation for helping us to be there for our patients and their loved ones at Christmas, but also long into the future.”
