The comedian and TV presenter is preparing to do a short tour of the UK with his father Michael, having done a memorable preview show at Carnegie Hall in New York, before touring Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Dubai in January.

The dynamic between 36-year-old Jack and his 84-year-old father, author, producer, talent agent and television personality Michael, is one which fans have enjoyed on television with "Travels with my Father" and which Jack said had taken on a life of its own.

He said: "We've done bits and bobs before, such as doing a book tour once and, way back in the day, doing a show together at the Edinburgh Festival, which was the first time we'd done anything together.

"We started doing it on stage and then we did our Netflix shows and it's sort of come full circle as we've ended up doing live shows together, having been approached by the New York Comedy Festival at Carnegie Hall.

"I said we didn't have much of a show, but my mum was insistent that we should do it because she said it was too good of an opportunity to turn down, so we knocked our heads together and worked out what we could do.

"It seemed to go down really well and now it's become a full blown tour, which is kind of bizarre."

Jack and Michael Whitehall Live will be coming to The Halls, Wolverhampton on December 21 and Jack said he was excited about performing in Wolverhampton, having been to the venue both before and after the restoration work.

He said that the show was a great way of showing the relationship between himself and his dad and also said there would be the added flavour of his mum Hilary being part of the show as well.

He said: "My dad is very good value on stage, but that's mainly because he sort of doesn't care and is very unprofessional, in that he often forgets there's an audience there and says whatever comes into his head.

"He's almost impossible to control or stage manage, but then you have my mum, who is a kind of frustrated performer as she was an actress before having a family and so she has done touring and pantomimes and things like that.

"She has that background that people don't know about and she sort of inserted herself into the show and took control, which I am so relieved about and having her on stage with me is great because my dad is now quite advanced in years and has had a few Joe Biden moments.

"I'll tee him up for an anecdote and I'll get a one-word response or he'll repeat the same story as from earlier in the show, so my mum is up there to pick up the slack."

Jack joked that the appearance on the show had gone to his mum's head, saying that she wanted to show off all her talents at once.

He also said that his dad had moments of great fun as well, such as lip-syncing to Barry Manilow songs in full fancy dress.

For Jack, the addition of his parents to his touring life had been a strange one and one he said he hadn't seen coming when he started out as a comedian.

He said: "When I first started out, I remember just thinking stand up comedy was the coolest job in the world and it felt so rock and roll and it was for a while.

"But now, you're out on a stand up tour and you've got your mummy and daddy there and it really is emasculating, takes the wind out of your sails and punctures and sense that this is a rock and roll profession.

"When they're there, it kind of just completely ruins your street cred and generally destroys the vibe."

Jack said, jokingly, that he said that the only reason he got to headline Carnegie Hall was because he could bring his mum and dad, but said it was great to have them on tour as it got them out of the house and brought any arguments onto the stage for entertainment.

He said the show was a great way to relieve stress about the festive season and give people the chance to have a fun evening out.

He said: "Obviously, Christmas can be quite a stressful time for families as you have to go home and hand out with your mum and dad and you end up having your patience tested and it can be a pressure cooker environment for most people.

"This is a great opportunity to come along and spend some time with my family and, I assure you, they will make you feel a lot better about yours as any dysfunction you have will be like pair limitations compared to the weirdness of my family dynamic.

"Do come along and feel better about yourself."
