Ian Haycox from Bridgnorth has been snapping scenery around South Shropshire as a hobby for more than 50 years.

The retired engineer's recent shot of a misty birches caught in woodland between his home town and Ludlow, could get him national recognition.

The picture was taken in October and Ian has called it 'Faded Birch', and it has just been shortlisted in the Landscape category of the LCE Photographer of the Year Award 2025, organised by the London Camera Exchange.

Ian said: “I often take morning walks with my camera as I love the atmosphere the light creates.

“On this late October day near Burwarton, the beautiful soft misty light brought out the subtle tones of Autumn. It was the silver birches that caught my eye and the path disappearing into the fog.”

Winners of the competition, which will be announced at The 2025 Photography & Video Show held at Excel London in March, are decided by a public vote, the Shrosphire snapper is appealing for people to give his shot some support.

He said: “I’ve been an amateur photographer for 52 years, yet I still get a thrill when I see a nature scene worth capturing. I’m hoping to do well in the crowd vote.”
