The M42 between J6 and J7A was due to close in both directions from 9pm on Friday for work on a bridge that would allow new railway tracks to pass over near Birmingham Business Park and the NEC.
The road was expected to be closed for the whole weekend overnight until 5am, with signs in place for diversion.
However, the works are no longer going ahead due to the forecast bad weather - weather warnings and flood alerts are in place as Storm Darragh is set to hit this weekend.
West Midlands Roads said on X: "CANCELLED! These scheduled works have now been cancelled due to Storm Darragh and the bad weather forecasted across the West Midlands this weekend. @HighwaysWMIDS"
