The all-time top scorer for the club was speaking to press and the public as he opened the new BoyleSports business on Princess Street in Wolverhampton, as the Ireland-based bookmaker continues its expansion into the UK market.

Between permanent staff and contractors, the new shop hires six members of staff, with a further 26 staff employed during the shop construction phase.

A spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Wolverhampton is a city steeped in sporting history and we can’t wait to bring our second-to-none customer service to the public and provide the quality of service and facilities that we have proudly offered in Ireland for years. A legend like Steve Bull was befitting of the occasion and we were thrilled to be in the company of Wolves royalty for the big launch.”

The business is one of three opening their doors in Wolverhampton this winter, with TJ Hughes starting trade last Friday and Penny Farthing piercing salon opening in the Mander Centre on December 7.

After he cut the ribbon, Bull turned his attention to the current situation at Wolves, whose 4-2 defeat to Bournemouth at Molineux on Saturday left them in the Premier League’s bottom three.

“I’ve been like many Wolves supporters, fearing we’re going down because we’re in a bad position,” he said.

“The work and graft has been there, something was just not clicking in the first ten games, but in the two games before Bournemouth, the talent was shining through. We’ve got to dig in and roll our sleeves up now because we’ve got a few games coming up against teams around us where we need to pick up points, sooner rather than later. But I think we’ll be alright.”

Gary O’Neil’s side will hope to bounce back from the weekend defeat when they make the trip to Goodison Park on Wednesday to play Everton, who lie just two points clear of the drop zone in 15th.
