Taking the stand at Wolverhampton Crown Court in his defence, Ali told jurors he did not realise the front seat passenger had shot Zeb on Queen's Cross during a short journey in a VW Golf on January 31, 2021.

Ali claimed he was so drunk during the night he had not realised he was in the middle of a murder plot which involved number plates being changed, the car circling around the victim, a 100mph getaway, switching cars and then staying at a safe house.

When asked by James Curtis KC: "You were not aware on that icy cold night that the front passenger window was wound down?" Ali said: "No."
