Working alongside the team at Illuminos, the 2024 light show is themed with the 12 Days of Christmas in mind and with a Lichfield Cathedral twist.
The Light Show runs from December 16 to 22 from 5.30-pm and has proved hugely popular over the years, with people travelling from all over the region to experience the celebration of Christmas.
Beginning at the Dam Street entrance to the Cathedral Close, ticket holders will be greeted by the team of volunteers and will embark on a journey of wonder, with the first stop being the light show projected on to the former Bishop’s Palace, then on to the West Front show.
Ticket holders then continue inside the Cathedral where local choirs will be singing carols and there is a chance to visit the Christmas Tree Festival.
Viewing the Crib Scene gives people an opportunity to reflect, and candles will be available for anyone who wishes to light a candle.
The Dean of Lichfield, Rt Rev. Jan McFarlane, said: “We love welcoming everyone to the Cathedral and the Christmas light show is one one of the highlights of the year.
"In all the busyness of the run up to Christmas we hope that the Light Show gives us all a time to pause and to be inspired and encouraged and to remember the story of Jesus, whose birth lies at the very heart of our celebrations.”
Along the journey, both inside and outside the Cathedral, will be a 12 Days of Christmas trail to follow, exploring the meaning behind each of the 12 days and giving visitors an opportunity to reflect and make pledges into the coming year.
New for 2024 are special "Relaxed Sessions" on December 19, where provision has been made for those who would benefit from a more relaxed and supportive experience with fewer people and a quieter soundtrack.
These relaxed sessions will be outdoor only and come at a reduced ticket price.
Tickets start at £10 for the Christmas Light Show and £5 for Relaxed Sessions and can be found on the Lichfield Cathedral website.
The Christmas Lights are sponsored by Richard Winterton Auctionneers Ltd and the Christmas Tree Festival is organised by the Friends of Lichfield Cathedral.
