Motorists this evening faced hour-long delays on the M6 northbound due to an earlier four-car collision between Junction 6 for Birmingham and Junction 7 for Walsall, with congestion reaching seven miles long.

It closed three out of four lanes while the cars were recovered.

Three lanes reopened, but another collision has now occurred a short way down within the same two junctions.

Two lanes of four were closed while emergency services dealt with the incident, causing an additional 45-minute delay and six miles of congestion.

The vehicles from the second collision were cleared and all lanes reopened by about 7.50pm.
