Stoneacre Vehicle Sales and Hire closed in February 2023 and the Newport Road property has been empty ever since.

The former Randles Suzuki site includes a petrol station, is on the edge of Stafford town centre and has been on the market for sale without any takers.

Horsley Huber Architects provided a statement to Stafford Borough Council, which said: "This is an application for a change of use from hiring, selling and/or displaying motor vehicles to to a hot food takeaway.

"The car dealership that previously leased the site ceased trading at this location on February 28, 2023. The application site has been unsuccessfully marketed under its current use class during this time and remains vacant."

It added: "All associated building works are to be contained within the envelope of the existing building. No extension to the existing building footprint is proposed. No external alteration of the existing building are proposed."

The statement concluded: "It is considered that the change of use will ensure the continued economic viability of this commercial unit. The change of use can be implemented without the need for major alteration works, with the existing access, drainage and hardscaping being retained."

The deadline for comments concerning the application is December 18 and for more information visit www12.staffordbc.gov.uk/ citing  24/39770/FUL.
