Wednesbury's show tonight featuring Emmerdale's Danny Miller, who plays Aaron Dingle, is among a string of switch-on shows being held across the Black Country and Staffordshire this weekend. He will be joined by the Mayor of Sandwell Councillor Syeda Khatun alongside BBC WM breakfast show presenters Sarah Julian and PJ to perform the official switch-on at 6.15pm in Market Place.
Entertainment includes a performance by singer David Lane, a DJ and plenty of gift and information stalls.
Mr Miller was crowned winner of ITV's I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here in 2021 when the reality show was based at Gwrych Castle in north Wales after moving from the Australian jungle due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Other switch-ons today include Wordsley from 4pm to 7pm in Wordsley Shopping Centre, in The Green.
In Stourbridge there will be children’s rides, choirs and entertainment, in High Street, followed by an appearance from Mr Grinch and the Mayor of Dudley Councillor Hilary Bills, who will switch on the lights at 5pm.
There will also be entertainment at Ryemarket Square and open mic sessions on an outdoor stage at Coventry Street until 7pm in association with Plugged Inn.
In Cannock town centre reindeer and characters from Disney's Frozen will perform star turns in Market Place until 6pm. Attractions include real reindeers, bands, food hampers, chocolate hampers and prizes.
In Rugeley the switch-on will be held in the town centre until 7.30pm with the switch-on at 5pm, featuring music and stalls.
Tomorrow (Sunday) Sedgley's switch-on event will feature activities taking place throughout the day. Deputy Mayor Councillor Pete Lee and local boxing star Kirstie Bavington will be switching on the lights at 6.30pm. Entertainers will include the town's Kenny Craig.
The Stourbridge and Sedgley shows have been organised by Dudley Council in partnership with Merry Hill Shopping Centre and builders' merchants Jewson.
