There were early morning delays on the Midlands Metro in Wolverhampton after a bus broke down on a road heading into the city centre.

The break down occurred on the A41 Bilston Road at around 7.30am and meant that tram services were unable to run past Priestfield, leaving passengers at the Royal, Pipers Row and Wolverhampton Station needing to find alternative travel arrangements while the bus was recovered.

West Midlands Metro announced that tickets would be accepted on bus and train services.

A spokesman for West Midlands Metro said: "Due to a broken down bus on the Bilston Road, trams are currently only operating Priestfield and Edgbaston Village.

"There is no service in operation between Priestfield and Wolverhampton Station.

"Ticket acceptance is in place for the 79 bus between Priestfield and Wolverhampton.

"Ticket acceptance is also in place with West Midlands Railway between Wolverhampton and Birmingham."

Bus passengers were also warned of diversions on a service which would normally pass along the A41, with National Express West Midlands saying the 79 service would be diverted.

A spokesman said: "Due to a broken down vehicle on Bilston Road in Wolverhampton, the Service 79 is diverting in both directions via Stowheath Lane and Willenhall Road.

"Apologies for any disruption to your journey."

The bus was confirmed as recovered and the line reopened at 8.02am.
