The case against two teenagers accused of the murder of the 15-year-old in New Square Shopping Centre on Sunday, April 7 began at Bolton Crown Court on Monday.

The 14 and 18 year old, who were 13 and 17 at the time of Isaac Brown's death and cannot be named for legal reasons had their heads bowed as the prosecution began its case in a trial which is expected to last at least three weeks.

Opening the trial, Sally Howes KC said the prosecution would be trying to prove that the case was one of 'joint enterprise' and although one of the pair - the 17-year-old - had used a 'lethal weapon' with a long blade, it had been passed to him by the other defendant.

She said: "As you will see in the CCTV evidence it was used in a wide swinging movement to produce a single stab wound to the left side of the chest which killed Isaac Brown."

"Isaac Brown had a weapon on him but at the time he was killed he had it hanging down at his side and wasn't a threat to anybody."
