There were Stormtroopers, Jedis, Vulcans, Hobbits and even an appearance from Darth Vader as a popular free celebration of film, TV and comic culture came to Wolverhampton.

The fifth Geekcon brought hundreds of people to the Mander Centre on Saturday as part of a weekend-long Comic Con-style event, with stalls, a market place and cosplayers found all over the lower mall of the centre.

The event was packed full of traders, film and TV props to strike a post at, cosplayers in costumes from Star Wars and other Sci-fi films, free face painting, Dungeons and Dragons sessions and retro gaming centre inside the Mander Centre Community Hub.

It also had a charitable side to it as well, with donations being taken for the Wolves Foundation, while a wide range of toys, characters, pictures and other memorabilia were up for sale across the centre.

Organiser Laura Taylor said the event was a way to engage people in the full Comic Con experience and have a bit of fun.

She said: "Usually, Comic conventions are really expensive to attend, costing about £40 to £60 a ticket, so we wanted to put on something smaller, but free for everyone to enjoy.

"The reaction has been really good and I think it actually gets better every year as people know about it and just really look forward to coming out to it.

"I just want people to come along and enjoy and realise that the Mander Centre really does do this sort of thing for free, plus we've got all these eateries and shops for people to enjoy as well.
