A man has been injured by a car as he attempted to rescue a stray pug on a busy road in Stourbridge.

West Midlands Police said that the 37 year-old was struck by a red Mazda 3 on Lye Bypass, near to the junction of Jackson Street, at around 4.40pm on Thursday (November 14).

He had been crossing the road after spotting the stray dog near a bus stop. Officer are appealing for help to find the hit-and-run driver and have urged them to get in touch with police.

The car was found parked behind Wollescote Community Centre on Wassell Road. It was seized for forensic examination. It is not known what has happened to the dog.

A spokesperson for WMP said: “No arrests have been made and we need people who saw what happened or have dashcam footage of the collision, to get in touch with us.

“The man is now recovering at home but it is unclear what happened to the dog following the incident.
