West Midlands Railway said all lines are blocked between Wolverhampton and Tame Bridge Parkway on Thursday (November 21) morning.
Writing to X, formerly Twitter, just before 9am, the regional train operator warned passengers that services running between the railway stations would be cancelled.
On its website, National Rail said: "Engineers are in the process of arranging the lines to be blocked so investigations can take place.
"As a result, trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised."
Disruption is expected to remain in place until 4pm.
