Man left seriously injured after being hit by car in West Bromwich

A pedestrian has been seriously injured after he was struck by a car in West Bromwich.

West Midlands Fire Service were called by paramedics who attended the property in Rowley Regis, West Mids., at 10.45am on Wednesday (24/9). Ambulance crews had been unable to lift the man to take him for treatment because of his hefty bulk after he collapsed at home. Firefighters then used a hydraulic lift platform to reach the window of the first floor flat, which they then removed using cutting equipment usually reserved for car crashes. The clinically obese patient was lifted to safety onto the crane in an operation lasting over TWO HOURS. A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said they finally managed to take the man to Russells Hall Hospital, in Dudley, at 2.30pm..

Police and paramedics were called to Trinity Way just after 3pm on Thursday where they found the injured man.

He was treated on the roadside by medical staff before being taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The driver is said to have remained at the scene.

The A4031 Trinity Way Southbound was closed from High Street to Glover Street but has since reopened.

National Express West Midlands Services 54 & 89 were also diverted towards Smethwick via Spon Lane and Kelvin Way.

A WMAS spokeswoman said: "We were called to reports of an RTC at the junction of Trinity Way and High Street in West Bromwich just after 3pm. An ambulance, two paramedic officers, MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews found a car and a pedestrian had been involved in a collision.

"The pedestrian, a man, was treated for serious injuries before being conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital with MERIT travelling on board to provide continued treatment en route."

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "We were called to Trinity Way, West Bromwich at just after 3pm today after a pedestrian was struck by a car.

"A man was treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital with serious injuries. The driver remained at the scene and our enquiries continue."
