A special community event is set to bring people together in a Wolverhampton mosque for coffee and cake as a way of helping cancer charities.

In partnership with Jamia Masjid Bilal, Secret Angels CIC will be holding its annual Macmillan Coffee Morning fundraiser on Sunday from 11am to 2pm.

Following the success of last year’s event, Secret Angels is back to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, with a unique twist this year as the event will be held at Jamia Masjid Bilal on Newhampton Road East in Wolverhampton, fostering a welcoming space for diverse communities to unite in support of a vital cause.

To date, Secret Angels has raised more than £18,000 for Macmillan, and this year, the charity said it is aiming to add more than £2,000 to that total.

The Coffee Morning will feature a selection of teas, coffees, cakes, biscuits, and other foods, along with games, activities, face painting, Mendhi stalls, and more.

Funds raised will directly support cancer care for local communities, and this event marks the first time Jamia Masjid Bilal has hosted a Macmillan fundraiser, opening its doors to everyone, no matter their background, colour, or creed.

It highlights the mosque’s role as a welcoming, inclusive space for community support and collaboration, encouraging cancer awareness across all demographics.

Alvina Ali, Secret Angels CIC, said: “We’re excited to host our Macmillan Coffee Morning at Jamia Masjid Bilal this year.

"It’s a chance for us to come together as a community, support each other, and show that the mosque is a welcoming space for everyone, regardless of background.

"With the incredible support we’ve received so far, raising more than £18,000, we invite everyone to join us and help us reach our target to support those affected by cancer in Wolverhampton.”

John Harrison, Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “Having this event at Jamia Masjid Bilal is truly inspiring.

"It shows the strength of community collaboration in supporting people affected by cancer and breaking down barriers.

"Money raised will help to make a life-changing difference and ensure people affected by cancer can receive emotional, financial and practical support when it's needed most.

"We’re grateful to Secret Angels and Jamia Masjid Bilal for creating such an inclusive event and look forward to a successful day.”
