30 firefighters scrambled to chip shop blaze in Wolverhampton city centre

Six fire engines were scrambled to a blaze at a fish and chip shop in Wolverhampton city centre on Tuesday night.

Thirty firefighters from Wolverhampton, Walsall, Fallings Park, Tettenhall and Bilston stations as well as a four by four brigade response vehicle attended the scene at Stafford Street shortly after 8.10pm. 

The first crew arrived within three minutes of being mobilised 

Upon arrival, crews discovered that the fire started in a chip shop and extinguished the blaze using three jets. 

The takeaway is within a three-story building with a basement and residents living above.

The first floor is comprised of two bedsits and the second floor was a flat.

All flats and the basement were searched and everyone was accounted for.

Three people had freed themselves from the residential accommodation before emergency services arrived and one boy was led to safety by firefighters. There were no injuries or casualties.

Crews left the scene at 12.45am and returned shortly after 6.15am this morning to check for hotspots, but none were found.
