Nawaz (Naz) Arslan, owner of Quick Fix Auto, saved the life of GSF Car Parts employee Peter Roberts when he unexpectedly collapsed and suffered a heart attack during a delivery of car parts to the Reservoir Place garage last month.
Naz quickly assessed the situation and called emergency services.
While awaiting the ambulance, Mr Roberts lost consciousness and Naz was guided by emergency personnel on the telephone to perform CPR , keeping him alive until paramedics arrived.
The medical staff continued life-saving measures, including using a defibrillator, ultimately stabilising Mr Roberts before transporting him to New Cross Hospital for further treatment. He spent several days in intensive care but is now steadily recovering.
Naz' actions have been deemed instrumental in keeping Mr Roberts stable as he awaited advanced medical care and they helped keep him alive.
He said: "It was a frightening situation, but I knew I had to act quickly. I followed instructions from the emergency team and performed CPR. Hearing Peter’s voice now, knowing he’s on the road to recovery, is a huge relief and makes all the effort worth it."
Mr Roberts, who previously worked for the Express and Star for 36 years said: "Naz is my hero. Without him, I wouldn’t be here today. His quick actions and calmness under pressure saved my life. I’ll never forget what he did for me."
Speaking on the incident, Steve Horne, CEO of national chain GSF Car Parts which has branches in Walsall and Birmingham said: "We are immensely grateful to Nawaz Arslan for his extraordinary courage and quick thinking during such a critical moment.
"His actions went far beyond what anyone could expect, and his life-saving assistance truly exemplifies the close-knit relationships we’re proud to have with our customers and partners.
"Peter is an invaluable member of our GSF family, and we’re all relieved to see him on the road to recovery. Naz’s heroism and calm under pressure will never be forgotten, and we are thankful to have such remarkable people in our community.”
Representatives of GSF presented Naz with a hamper at the garage as a token of their thanks.
