Police were called at about 7.15pm on Wednesday night to a collision between a blue Yamaha motorbike and a white Mercedes car on the eastbound carriageway, between Ventura and Marlborough Way. Both vehicles were damaged in the crash.

Debris from the collision hit a white Vauxhall Adam travelling in the opposite direction causing the driver, a woman in her 50s, to stop.

A white Scania HGV then collided with the stationary Vauxhall and the rider of the motorbike, who was on foot at the time.

Sadly, the rider of motorbike, a man in his 20s, suffered serious injuries and died at the scene.

His family are being supported by specially-trained officers.

The woman driving the Vauxhall suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

The driver of the HGV stayed at the scene and is assisting police with the investigation.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "We’re keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened on either carriageway or those with CCTV or dashcam of the area at the time."
