Daughters of Staffordshire couple who died in Spanish floods pledge to donate money to dog shelter their parents loved

The daughters of a Burntwood couple who were found dead in their car after severe flooding in Spain are determined to 'do what's right' by them - by raising money for the dog rescue centre their mum and dad loved.

Terry, 74, and Don Turner, 78, were discovered in a sparsely-populated area where they lived near the small town of Pedralba, a 45-minute drive north-west of Valencia.

Their daughters, Renee Turner and Ruth O'Loughlin, from Burntwood, confirmed that their parents’ bodies were found in their car on Saturday.

Now, the women want to do everything they can to carry on their parents' legacy.

They spoke of how Terry and Don were 'massive animal lovers' and volunteered at a dog rescue shelter local to them, called Rastro.

The sisters spoke of how important it was to them to support the shelter that their parents loved so much.

"When they volunteered at the local dog shelter, it gave them happiness," Ruth told BBC WM.

Renee added: "We want to show love and respect to our parents and do what's right by them.

"We want to have an auction and for all proceeds to go to the dogs home, where my parents volunteered. It made my parents very happy for the time they were there, so it's something that's very important to me and my sister."

The pair moved to Spain because they "always wanted to be in the sunshine", the daughters said.

"They were together, they had great friends there. All the sort of things you can't do in England very much because of the rain, like sitting outside to eat our tea. Mom and dad did that all the time," Ruth said.

The sisters first found out about their parents' deaths from a friend who video called them.

“He said ‘Ruth, get your husband’," Ruth explained. "I called my husband in and he just said ‘Martin, hold your wife’, and said that they had been found in their car.”

“We still don’t know exactly what happened to them. The only thing we’ve got from this is that they were together. It’s not the way you want your parents to go.”
