Arrest made following foot chase in Smethwick

Officers have arrested a 40-year-old man on suspicion of going equipped for theft

West Midlands Police rushed to the scene of Victoria Road just after 11pm on November 3 to reports of suspicious activity at the property in Smethwick.

Officers were quickly on the scene, where they discovered a man attempting to break into a property, upon being spotted the man made off. 

A 40-year-old man was arrested following a brief chase on foot.

A hammer and crowbar were discovered and the man is currently in custody on suspicion of going equipped for theft.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We've seized a hammer, and a crowbar and made an arrest after responding to suspicious activity in Smethwick.

"Officers were quickly on the scene and a man ran off. However, following a brief foot chase a 40-year-old was arrested."
