A Wolverhampton van driver has been arrested by West Midlands Police officers from the force’s new Roads Policing Unit.

The crime-busting team is targeting serious and organised criminals who use the roads while also reducing the major causes of serious and fatal collisions. They are operating in high-performance unmarked cars.

The van driver from Wolverhampton is among the first suspects to be arrested by the Roads Policing Unit.

Officers say the driver is suspected of  involvement in the distraction theft of thousands of pounds from an elderly person in Wolverhampton. Cash was recovered following his arrest.

A spokesperson for WMP said: “We’re increasing the number of Road Crime Teams from two to three to boost our ability to tackle serious and organised crime, burglars who steal vehicles from people’s driveways, county lines drug dealers and other major offending.

“And in a first for the force, they will be using smaller high-performance unmarked cars to keep pace.”
