Staffordshire flat fire: Fire investigators issue update on cause of explosion

Fire crews rushed to the two-storey flat on Chase Road at around 9.10pm on Monday (October 28) after an internal explosion occurred.
A man, aged in his 20s, suffered serious burns and was taken to hospital where he remained in a critical condition on Friday.
Five other flats were evacuated, but no one else was hurt, a spokesman for Staffordshire Police said.

On Friday, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service revealed the blaze was started accidentally.
A spokeswoman said: "The explosion and subsequent fire at a flat in Burntwood has been deemed accidental by fire investigators.
"A man, in his 20s, suffered serious burns and was taken to hospital. He remains in a critical condition. We can now confirm that the fire was started accidentally."
Residents living on Chase Road described hearing "loud bangs" and cries for help from inside the flat when the explosion occurred.
A row of shops which sit under the block of flats where the explosion occurred were closed on Tuesday morning but later reopened.
