Driver arrested after being found more than twice over drink driving limit on motorway near Stafford

A van driver seen driving erratically was found to be more than two times over the drink driving limit after being arrested.

Officers from Staffordshire Police spotted the white van being driven in an erratic fashion on the M6 between Junction 14 for Stafford and Junction 15 for Stoke-on-Trent, with the van being seen to almost collide with the barriers on both sides.

The officers gave chase and although the van driver initially failed to stop, the driver eventually pulled over after two more units joined the pursuit.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and subsequently blew 87 in custody, well above the limit of 35.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "On the M6 between Junction 14 and Junction 15, a van was spotted by officers driving erratically and almost colliding with the barriers on both sides.

"The van briefly failed to stop, but when another two of our units arrived, the van driver saw sense & stopped. 

"The driver arrested for drink driving and blew 87 in custody, with the limit being 35."
