Dave Dunne said that he was busy looking after his customers at Top Cuts Hair by Dave on Louise Street when he heard the sounds of a car revving its engine on the road outside.

He said it felt like literally seconds later that his shop window was destroyed by the reversing car and the dramatic scenes that followed.

"I was working and cutting the customers hair and I could hear the car revving up outside, then I was walking across the floor by the window when, all of a sudden, the back end of the car came right across and through the window," he explained.

"It pushed me up against one of the chairs and we all got out of the way as the car ended up completely inside the shop and myself and my three customers couldn't get out of the shop as the car was blocking the way.

"We couldn't get out until the fire brigade turned up and got the car out and I know that the woman, who I think was in her 80s, was taken to hospital."

Mr Dunne said the front of the shop had been almost completely destroyed by the car, which had also moved one of his big hairdressing chairs and left the inside of the shop covered in glass and debris.

He added that, luckily, there had been no one injured inside the shop and while he described himself as walking wounded, he said he was ok physically, if a bit shaken up.

He continued: "I'm all right, although I felt a bit shaken up when I got home afterwards and the ambulance staff had wanted to take me to hospital as I had a few cuts on my arm.

"There was a bit of glass which got taken out, but I felt I was ok at the time, so they told me that if there were any problems to go to the hospital."

Mr Dunne also spoke about the response from the local community, saying that he was very thankful and grateful for their support, and said he was going through insurance to get things back to normal and get the shop repaired.

He said: "The community have been brilliant as I've been here for 25 years and everyone knows me and they've all be so supportive.

"I've got insurance, which I'm sure will take a long time and I'd much rather be back in the shop and working, but I do know that it could have been a lot worse and I think we were all lucky at the time."
