The Bare Bones project was developed by Backyard Brewhouse in Brownhills.

Director Austen Morgan said that they had invested in a two-barrel kit for small batch brewing along with small home canning and labelling equipment.

Initially four new beers have been launched in 440ml cans – American Pale (4.3 per cent strength), Golden Child (4.5 per cent), Doozy (4.9 per cent) and Bones Pale (6.6 per cent).

"We have got some more in the pipeline. Bare Bones has given us the chance to experiment more easily than we could with the main brewery," said Mr Morgan.

"We can brew in a slightly different way and be a bit more brave."

At the moment there is no plan to can any of the main traditional Backyard beers like Blonde and Gold.

Backyard is initially offering special four packs of one of each of the new beers for £12.

They can be ordered on 01543 360145, via the Backyard facebook page and the website tbb.uk.com

The brewery, in Lichfield Road, offers click and collect or deliveries within a 12-mile radius.

In the long term the craft beer cans will be supplied to off-licences.

There are also plans to produce 20 or 30-litre kegs of the craft brews.

"We have been getting feedback for a few weeks from those that have tried the craft beers and so far it has been pretty good. We never expected everyone to like all four," added Mr Morgan.

Backyard was established in 2008 and marks 13 years in February.

It has won a number of awards for its ales over the years.
