100 watermelons dumped in alleyway in 'drive-by fruiting'
More than 100 watermelons have been "fruit-tipped" in an alleyway in the West Midlands.
The mouldy lot of fruit was dumped off Old Lode Lane in the Sheldon area of Solihull on Wednesday.
The fruit was continuing to block access to several garages along the alleyway, near to Valley Primary School, on Friday.
The owner of a hardware shop, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "It was dumped late on Wednesday night, it is blocking access to several garages. I have called the council but they have yet to turn up and do anything."
Many pieces of the fruit had been cut open and were covered in mould, while others hav totally collapsed to form a pool of watermelon sludge.
They are spread over the entire width of the alleyway along with two wooden crates.
It has prompted jokes from people on social media, including from Julie Rathbone who described it as a "drive-by-fruiting," while others said the fruit could have been donated to a zoo in need.
Solihull Borough Council has been contacted for comment.
