Fundraiser auctions off Captain Tom painting after winning it in raffle
A painting of NHS fundraiser Captain Tom by the wife of a former Wolves star is to be auctioned off for charity.
Denise Dennison, wife of Robbie Dennison, raffled the piece off to help support healthcare workers in Wolverhampton – with more than £800 made in the process.
But raffle winner Jason Guy has now decided to auction the painting again to raise even more money for the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.
The cash raised will be added to the Wolves former players' fund for the trust, which runs New Cross Hospital.
Steve Plant, who is hosting the auction and carried out the raffle, said he fully expected Mr Guy to give the item back to raise more funds.
He said: "Jason, I think, had around 10 tickets in it and he was pulled out and I knew exactly what he would do with it.
"I let him know and he said 'let's auction it'.
"I know some other people – beside Jason – who do this. They would've all done exactly the same.
"They buy tickets regularly for a charity raffle and if they win it they put it back into the pot to help raise even more money."
Mr Guy tweeted: "Another chance to win this superb painting for a great cause!"
Former Wolves star Karl Henry said: "Thank you Denise Dennison for donating your wonderful painting – over £800 is fantastic.
"Thank you again to Steve Plant for facilitating this and a huge thank you to the winner, Jason Guy for generously putting it up for auction.
"Incredible support for the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust."
Captain Tom Moore raised more than £30 million for the NHS by completing 100 laps of his garden.
The current bid for the painting stands at £500 with the auction ending on Tuesday (May 11) at 8pm.
