Plant nursery raises more than £40k for charity
A plant nursery has raised more than £40,000 for a charity in just one year.
Ashwood Nurseries, in Ashwood Lower Lane, near Kingswinford, managed to raise a total of £41,482 for The Brain Tumour Charity in 2019.
Most of the money came from nursery owner John Massey opening his garden to the public, but some came from donations.
Mr Massey said: “I’ve been considerably moved by the experiences of people affected by brain tumours.
"A very dear nurseryman friend of mine died last year from a brain tumour and a former member of staff has just undergone radiotherapy and now chemotherapy for her tumour.
"I’m also aware that brain tumours affect both children and young adults, and realise how devastating this is for their families.
"I want our fundraising to support The Brain Tumour Charity in all aspects of its work, but most especially research and support for patients.
"I’m so impressed with their resolve to double survival rates by 2025 and halve the harm that brain tumours have on the quality of life by 2020."
The next time Mr Massey's garden will be opening up to the public is February 8 from 10am to 4pm.
The entrance charge is £5.
