Meet the fat Jack Russell from Wolverhampton who's become an internet sensation

Pooch Rupert, who is now 13 years old, has taken the internet by storm with his social media accounts, profiling his bulging physique and hilarious sense of humour.

Run by his devoted owner Rachael Alonzo, 47, from Wolverhampton, she claims his size is due to him being 'big boned' and that no matter how many diets she tries, nothing works.

Rupert – who weighs 1st 7lbs (11kg) which is almost double the size of the average Jack Russell – has lived with owner Rachael since he was a puppy, and has overcome multiple health problems such as skin allergies meaning he had to go on steroids.

Now boasting an impressive 18,000 Instagram and Twitter followers, Rupert has fast become an online star since his accounts were set up 2016.

Rachael, an author and administrator, said: "He's always been a chunky dog - we initially said he was big boned.

"He was sold to us as a dwarf Jack Russell but he could potentially be a cross breed.

"He's on a special diet, consisting of no grains or wheat - his treats tend to be carrots and apple but he gets even those very rarely.

"But he has been on these diets for three years and we haven't noticed any weight loss at all.

"A typical Jack Russell weighs as little as six kilos so Rupert is overweight in comparison.

"He's just not a very active dog but he's loved so much is my little boy.

"His steroids for his allergies are a nightmare too and certainly don't help his weight gain."

Rachael set up social media pages for Rupert in 2016 after writing a book named The Diary of A Fat Jack Russell.

Rachael added: "I found that the personality I created for Rupert online was funny.

"It seemed Rupert was generating a lot of joy for people using social media and it also generated positivity for animal charities.

"We have experienced some trolls who criticise his weight but it's all in the past now."

Using the hashtag #noseboops, which his owner also wrote a book about, the determined pooch has captured the hearts of thousands with his profile which not only documents the cute pup's journey but also raises awareness of his chosen charity, Wetnose Animal Aid, based in Suffolk.

Rupert's sister Titch, a rescue Jack Russell who Rachael's adopted in 2009, was the motivation behind their decision to fundraise for Wetnose Animal Aid.

Rachael added: "Titch was very emancipated and still has quite a frightened disposition now.

"Rupert's online persona is the voice that creates a buzz for highlighting things like that - he's cute and people love to look at him."

Rupert's social media accounts have raised £4,000 since his rise to fame three years ago.

Rachael added: "Rupert is the love of my life - he's such a special little boy and his presence brings joy to so many people.

"Social media can be a lifeline for some people and if I can bring some pleasure that's fabulous."

Wetnose Animal Aid said: "Dear Rupe, as we call him, has been wonderful helping to sell his mummy’s books which raise much needed funds for us here at Wetnose Animal Aid.

"He deserves a medal for being such a good boy."
